How Long Will Your First Visit Take?

You should plan to spend about an hour with us during your first appointment, as we take time to answer all your questions without rushing.

What Should You Bring to Your Appointment?

To prepare for your first visit, bring your medical history, a list of any current medications, your dental insurance card or member number if applicable, a government-issued photo ID if you are a new patient, any recent x-rays or dental records, and a list of questions or concerns about your dental health. If you are missing some paperwork, in most cases, we can work with you to complete your visit smoothly.

Your First Day: What Happens When You Arrive?

When you arrive, we greet you by name, offer water or coffee, and assist with any final paperwork using a tablet, which means no clipboards to juggle. Your visit usually begins with a relaxed conversation about your reason for visiting and any relevant past dental experiences.

Examination, Cleaning, and X-rays

Your first appointment typically includes a comprehensive examination of your teeth, gums, bite, jaw joint, and soft tissues, and a review of your existing dental work. We often take low-dose digital x-rays at your first visit to check areas not visible visually and detect issues such as cavities between teeth or concerns with bone and jaw. A dental cleaning is usually performed at your first appointment, using ultrasonic and hand instruments to gently remove plaque and tartar above and below the gumline. After cleaning, we polish your teeth, floss between every tooth, and can provide a fluoride varnish treatment if you would like extra protection. At every cleaning, we measure the health of your gums and can catch early signs of gum disease through pocket measurements.

Your Questions and Next Steps

After the examination and cleaning, we discuss any findings with you and outline next steps or recommended treatments so you are fully informed about your care. We welcome and encourage any questions or concerns during your visit, so we can provide advice and information tailored to your needs. Our process includes explaining your treatment options and costs before any treatment begins, so you know what to expect.

Insurance, Payment, and Accessibility

Our staff reviews your insurance and payment options, and we bill insurance directly while accepting CDCP and NIHB. If you are interested in payment plans, we offer flexible arrangements to help make your care affordable and accessible.

Our Commitment to Patients and Families

Our dental team provides care for families and patients at all stages of life, with a focus on listening, explaining clearly, and patient comfort. We welcome new patients and families and look forward to helping you take the first step toward a healthier smile.
